Recently, a missionary was kidnapped here in Guatemala. As the events unfolded during the week, the missionary escaped and was found safe. It turns out that the Elder was from our area back home. The parents flew down here to do 2 things. First and foremost, give their son a hug and kiss. Secondly they needed to give a deposition in person of the demand for money that was made by one of the kidnappers. We were happy to see the parents and their missionary. We were able to attend the Temple with them and do a little sight seeing here in the capitol. Today( Sunday) they attended church with us at the CCM. After church we enjoyed a delicious meal which Hermana Pitcher prepared for us all. We had our friends, the Barlows, join us as well. We had a nice visit with them all. We found several connections with common friends and relatives of theirs. It is hard to imagine the trauma of such a horrible experience they have had.
The weather has been really crummy here this week, mid 70's and mostly sunny. We don't know how we can stand much more of this! Some trees and flowers are starting to blossom and bloom. However, most trees and flowers stay green all year long.
Today is the birthday of our youngest child. It is amazing that our baby is 32! Happy birthday !
After Hermana Pitcher's shift at the Temple on Friday, she went for a walk with our friends, the Barlow's. Elder Pitcher was hard at work in the Area Office, or so they thought. On the return trip home they decided to stop off at the frozen yogurt shop for a little refreshment. After paying for the yogurt Hermana Pitcher whispered to Herman Barlow that they needed to keep the frozen yogurt treat a secret from Elder Pitcher. Just then they turned around and who did they see? Yup, Elder Pitcher. They were so busted!
