We have a total of 141 missionaries here in the CCM. 100 are English speakers and the rest Spanish. Each one is interviewed within a day or 2 of their arrival. Some have the deer in the headlights look, others are very confident and excited to be here.
One Elder reported what had happened on his flight here. On the second leg of his flight, his companion blacked out and had a seizure. This Elder reacted quickly. His first thought was to give him a Priesthood blessing, which he did. His companion settled down and returned to normal. A lady close by had watched what had transpired. When things were quiet, she approached the Elder and asked what he had done or said to his companion. He explained that they were missionaries and were going to serve in Central America. He continued to explain about the Priesthood and blessings that can be given to anyone who has faith and a desire. Their conversation continued throughout the remainder of the flight. He gave her some literature to read and asked if she would like to know more. She agreed and provided her name, number and address. She happens to live here in Guatemala City. She had heard some things about THOSE MORMONS before but quickly admitted that she could see that they were lies. As they parted company, she said to this young man, I really feel that God put me here to meet you and hear your message. She indicated that she was anxious to learn more about the church. You may think that this is all of the story but it is not. Elder Pitcher asked the Elder to share his experience in the Branch Council meeting on Sunday. The Branch President asked the Elder where she lived. It turns out that her place is not to far from his home. The missionary wrote his testimony in a Book of Mormon so it can be delivered to the lady by the Branch President and his Counselor. We will keep you informed as things develop.
Two districts of Elders are actually living in the Temple housing because things are so full here. It is a little over a block away from the CCM. The Elders are pretty pumped as they walk to and from their apartment. They have given out a few Books of Mormon to people they meet on their way to their apartment.
We keep thinking we are not going to be here much longer, but President Cox has had a few setbacks, so his time in the United States keeps getting longer. We love rubbing shoulders with the missionaries here at the CCM. They have great testimonies and we love hearing their stories. Several are here after being a member for barely over one year. Others come from part member families or still others are the only member in their family. They all amaze us.
Thank you for all of your love and prayers on our behalf. We want you to know that all of you are in our thoughts and prayers each day.
